You don’t have to “get over” grief. You learn how to carry it differently.
Grief can change everything.
Whether you’ve lost someone you love, experienced the end of a relationship, lost a part of your identity, or are navigating a life you never expected, grief can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, angry, numb, or simply not like yourself.
At Riverside Counseling, grief therapy offers a safe, compassionate space to process your loss without judgment or pressure to “move on.”
Grief doesn’t follow a timeline.
There is no right way to grieve and no schedule you’re supposed to follow.
Some days you may feel okay. Other days, a memory, song, smell, anniversary, or quiet moment can bring everything rushing back. You may experience sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, numbness, or even relief.
All of it can be part of grief.
Therapy can help you understand what you’re experiencing, process the emotional weight of your loss, and find ways to move forward while still honoring what — and who — matters to you.
Grief can come from many kinds of loss
Grief therapy can support you through:
- Loss of a loved one
- Sudden or unexpected death
- Complicated or traumatic grief
- Loss of a relationship or marriage
- Divorce or separation
- Loss of a pregnancy or baby
- Estrangement or complicated family relationships
- Loss of a pet
- Loss of health or physical abilities
- Chronic illness and life changes
- Loss of identity or purpose
- Career or financial loss
- Major transitions and unexpected changes
- Grief connected to trauma
- Anticipatory grief when someone you love is seriously ill
You don’t have to grieve alone.
Sometimes grief becomes tangled with trauma, guilt, anger, anxiety, or unresolved memories. You may find yourself replaying what happened, wondering what you could have done differently, or struggling with thoughts that you “should be doing better by now.”
Therapy can provide a place to slow down and work through those experiences at your own pace.
My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and solutions-focused, incorporating approaches such as CBT, somatic therapy, and EMDR when appropriate.
Rather than forcing you to talk about your loss before you’re ready, we can work together to determine what feels safe and helpful for you.
Finding your way forward
Healing from grief does not mean forgetting.
It doesn’t mean that the person, relationship, dream, or life you lost stops mattering.
It means learning how to make room for the loss while slowly reconnecting with yourself, your relationships, your purpose, and the life that is still unfolding.
You get to move forward without leaving your memories behind.
You are allowed to grieve.
You are allowed to heal.
And you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Riverside Counseling provides a compassionate, judgment-free space to help you navigate grief, loss, and the many emotions that come with them.
You bring your story. We’ll work together on where you want to go from here.
